Jumia Food/foodpanda group raised additional USD 20 million of funding to continue global roll out

Jumia Food and its affiliated brand foodpanda, the fastest growing online food delivery marketplace worldwide, received another USD 20 million in funding from a group of investors including Phenomen Ventures. With the new investment foodpanda/Jumia Food is aiming to continue its global ambitions and roll out to over 40 markets by the end of Q1. Last year, Jumia Food expanded into 20 more countries and launched a mobile app for iOS and Android, which is currently one of the leading food delivery apps worldwide. Of the new launches China (1.3 billion population), Russia (141 million) and Brazil (193 million) stand out in particular since these markets account for a huge number of people. LAGOS – New local venture Jumia Food launches its online food delivery website.

Striving to bring the best food delivery platform to Nigeria, Jumia Food introduces a convenient food ordering service for their customers that provides a great variety of culinary choices online. "Our belief is that ordering food online should be fuss-free, fast and fun", said Alfonso Pastor, the managing director of Jumia Food. Customers enter their area, find their favorite restaurant near them and with just a few effortless clicks, Jumia Food helps them to easily order food over the internet.

Consumers spend a large portion of their time online and business owners want to leverage on the increasing influence of social media and online platforms. "We definitely expect an increase in customer numbers from the cooperation with Jumia Food", said Nike Majekodunmi, restaurant owner of "Nuts about Cake".
